Blocking patterns setting up, as seen on water vapour satellite loops
Overview
This page shows the satellite imagery over the eastern Pacific Ocean during a time when blocking patterns were setting up. The upper ridge was building up to the north of a cut-off low which was sitting there and spinning.
This formed what is known as a high over low block, a pattern that blocks all but the most vigourous attempts at moving any kind of weather through the area.
