The bounded weak echo region (BWER) of June 7, 2016
What happened?
On June 7, 2016, a fairly strong thunderstorm formed to the west-southwest of Edmonton, Alberta. During the storm's lifetime, a bounded weak echo region (BWER) appeared on RADAR. A BWER is a hole or minimum in the reflectivity that extends through a vertical depth of a thunderstorm, signifying a strong updraft, and it is often associated with supercells. The RADAR information is presented here. Note that the BWER is most evident at the 5 km CAPPI, appearing almost like a donut.
No severe weather reports were received with this thunderstorm at the time of the BWER.
