A rear-flank downdraft on RADAR
What happened?
On April 15, 2011, a major tornado outbreak occurred in Dixie Alley. Many tornadic supercells occurred. One of those storms occurred close to the Birmingham, AL RADAR. At one point, the rear-flank downdraft (RFD) came out of the storm, a process thought to aid in tornadogenesis. The RADAR animations of this RFD are presented here.
