Roost rings, as seen on RADAR
Overview
On the morning of September 1, 2006, a curious phenomenon presented itself on the Minot, ND RADAR. Circles were growing from several points just after sunrise (sunrise denoted by the sunspike), growing to a fair size before dissipating.
These circles are known as roost rings. These are manifestations of birds leaving their roosting area in the morning to go foraging. (Thanks to Clemson University RADAR Ornithology Laboratory {CUROL} for having this explanation of what we were looking at on their site.)
