The standing waves of November 25, 2013
What happened
On November 24, 2013, a cold front swept southward through the prairies, ushering in a northwesterly low-level flow. The next day, the northwest flow continued, and it could be seen very well on visible satellite imagery as standing waves over the terrain.
The visible satellite imagery shows low cloud, likely stratocumulus cloud; the Bismarck sounding from within the airmass shows that this is likely what the cloud type was.
