A splitting supercell thunderstorm in central Texas on May 9, 2005
What happened
A thunderstorm formed in central Texas on May 9, 2005. It formed in a high instability and relatively low shear environment. It did, though, have just enough shear to rotate--and split.
Giant hail was reported with this storm, later in the evening.
