The interesting visible satellite animation of August 13, 2005
What happened
On August 13, 2005, a complex pattern of deep moist convection occurred over the Great Lakes region of the US. The satellite imagery reveals many interesting features: the line advancing through central Illinois displays numerous overshooting tops; outflow boundaries across northern Indiana and Ohio serve as the convergence mechanisms to force storms there; and late in the animation the shadows from the storms' anvils are impressive.
