The prairies warm front of January 12, 2012

What happened

On January 12, 2012, a warm front sat approximately north to south across the prairie provinces, with the warm air (~ -2°C) to the west and the cold air (~ -22°C) to the east. This warm front could even be seen on infrared satellite imagery, as the difference in return (i.e. temperature) was great enough to show up on this satellite channel.
